When we first hear this question thousands of positive answers will arise like India is developing, India has created a good image among other countries as a country with a great culture. But I am not asking this question from a public point of view. I am asking this question as a normal Indian citizen. Now when we say India is developing we are only feeling it but I am speaking about the simple scenes which we see with our naked eyes in the streets of India. Have you noticed some incident or just scenes which you think are the basic reason for the slow development of India? The aim of this article is to make you observe your surroundings because there is a hint in every scene. Those who pick up the hints will discover the real facts of why we are like this? Why we are not like that? Let me explain my point to you.
Unregistered informal street groups are the reasons for the slow economic development of India. Now you will think how such a small group of people will be the reason for slow development of India? As an answer to this question, I would like to explain each word of my statement. Unregistered means simply not bounded by law. These groups do not register under any act. We have rules for registering as a club, charity organisation etc.... informal means not formal that means there will not be any structure for the organisation. In a way we can say all are leaders. The next term is the most important term. This term means that the meeting place or activity place of the group will be streets.
Now you would be partially clear about the street groups but I want you to be clear about the term. So I am describing some scenes which I have seen many times when I travel by a bus or other vehicle. The scene will be under a tree or in a small bridge or in a bus stop 8 to 15 people would be sitting or standing here and there with either cigarettes, pan parag and alcoholic drinks even drugs. They will be in a relaxing mood but at the same time they will be talking loudly about the things which are happening in the village or discussing political factors of the country. Sometimes the meeting cross the limits of just talking and ends up in argument. As a result of that there are incidents like clashing of 2 groups and death of one or more persons. These street groups are usually seen in rural streets but we can also see street groups in a city may be in more matured way.
I am sure that now you have an idea of what street group is all about and some of you will have an experience related to the street groups. The question that will arise is that how it will slow the economic development of the economic development of the country. In business view it is said that the optimum civilization of resources is the most important requirement for the high profit of the company. Same things can be applied in the case of a country also. Optimum utilization of resources of a country is essential for the high rate of economic development. The resources which are not used for the economic development of a country are the street groups. We cannot say all the street groups are doing bad things but street groups which are having the features I stated above is certainly unutilized resources. In the street groups some will be employed and some will be unemployed. Employed workers after completing their work in the work place join street groups for their meetings in the evenings from 5’o clock onwards till even in the morning of the next day. Unemployed members will be also in the meeting place. In these groups unemployed members use the employed members for their needs. So in this way the money that flows towards the employed member’s family is blocked or reduced. The money from the employed members is not used for good purpose. This money is for buying drugs, alcohol, cigarette etc..... they also spend large amounts for the adventurous and also dangerous tours they go together.
Street groups have spread across the country and so the disadvantages due to the street groups affect the whole country. Poverty and unemployment is the main reason for the street groups. The unemployed members of the street group use the group as a trap to get the employed people who will spend money for them in the name of friendship. The unemployed members of the street group also go for the theft, murder and other antisocial activities for making money. These peoples have a security assurance from the employed members of the street group. The meeting of street groups in the streets also lead to violent situations. Sometimes due to the influence of the drugs and alcohol the street groups have classes among them and they become very dangerous to the public. The most important thing we have to notice in the street group is that the age group of the street groups is 15-30. It is a young age group and there is all possibility for diversion of their life towards a bad track due to street groups. I think in the street groups all the reasons for slow economic development comes together like unemployment, poverty, anti-social elements, diversion of young generation in to bad track etc.....
Now the number of street groups in India is alarmingly increasing. We have to take some control measures to reduce the number. The control measure should be done from the house itself. The values of life should be taught from the young age itself. Parents should monitor their children in every phase of their life. I think it is time for the government to introduce a new law stating that the non-permitted meeting of more than 5 people in a public place is prohibited and government has to execute the law efficiently. When we look at solving the problem we should look forward for solving the causes of the problem too. Unemployment and poverty are major problems but we have to reduce it. Government can bring a special law for registration compulsory. So that the street groups are monitored strictly and street groups will be useful for the public also.
I am concluding by saying that street groups are good for the country when it works based on good values otherwise street groups will have a negative effect on the economy by spreading violence, deviating young generation etc.... public and government should take sufficient control measures to control street groups because unity is strength only when it is for a right goal.
